
SB Wireless, LLC to Maintain Hermosa Beach Free Wi-Fi
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. – May. 9, 2006 – SB Wireless, LLC, a value-added supplier of the product solutions needed to design, build, run, maintain, and use wireless systems, has been selected by the city of Hermosa Beach, Calif. for ongoing maintenance of the Hermosa Beach Free WiFi Project.

This contract gives us a unique opportunity to maintain and improve upon one of the first city-scale wireless mesh networks in the United States,” said Shaun Cooley, president, SB Wireless. “We are confident that our wireless expertise will be well utilized by the city of Hermosa Beach.”
The City of Hermosa Beach was one of the first cities in the United States to create a free WiFi network in August 2004. The network, covering approximately 35 percent of the city, provides free Wi-Fi (802.11a/g) Internet access service to residents, visitors and merchants in the downtown area, along with City Hall and adjacent neighborhoods. Users can access the network at speeds of up to 6 Mbps, or five times DSL speeds.
